Search results
This chapter describes what the list of records may look like according to the conditions you have entered. Item details, copy listings, and information about item availability are described in the chapter Have you already selected a specific record.
Records are listed in the order of the relevance of the results to the search query, i.e. records that most closely relate to the search values are listed at the top of the list. Search results may be sorted by author, whole title, date of publication, etc.
If only one document satisfies the search conditions, the catalogue will automatically display this record. If the search yields a large number of records, you can refine your search results using the filters in the right-hand column of the on-line catalogue. The search conditions are displayed beneath the search box.
The search results are displayed on multiple pages. You can browse among the individual pages by using the arrows on the right-hand side of the list. The number of pages the list contains is displayed here. Clicking the single arrow will display the first next ( > ) or first previous ( < ) page. Clicking the double arrow will display the last ( >> ) or first ( << ) page of the list of search results.
When browsing the list of the search results, the following information about the item is available, which may help you choose the document you need.
- A truncated catalogue record of the item with basic information about the item, i.e. author, title, language, and publisher. These fields are active, which means that if you click on one of the terms, it will display the records that correspond with this condition. For example, if you click on the keyword phrase “detective novel,” the catalogue will select the records that correspond with this keyword phrase.
- The left-hand section of the record displays a preview of the item’s cover. If it is not available, a question mark is displayed (this is the case primarily for older items). Next to the cover preview, there is an icon that specifies the material type.
- books, brochures
- A/V media, e.g. phonograph records, cassette tapes
- CDs, audio books
- articles, periodicals
- The right-hand side of the record displays:
- stars indicating reader ratings that are assigned by the readers themselves. Only users that have signed in can rate documents.
- document reservations (for more information, see the chapter Reservations). Only users who have signed in can reserve documents.
- information about the availability of the item
- the Select function: this option allows you to select individual items. You can find the list of the items you have selected under Selected items in the right-hand section of the on-line catalogue. You do not need to be signed in to use this feature. For more information, see the chapter Selected items.
